Hrutey Island Walk

a 43:00 minute field recording of a walk along the perimeter of Hrutey Island in Blönduós, Iceland. The Blanda glacial river rushes by on all four sides before flowing into the Greenland Sea. Recorded a few hours before the island closed to protect migrating geese during their breeding season. Track release date: June 5, 2022. From the series "MATERIAL LINES."

Textílsetur Walk

A 14:30 minute field recording of a walk along the perimeter of the Icelandic Textile Center in Blönduós, Iceland. The recording weaves aspects of the natural environment with the unique sounds of artists in residence interacting with Icelandic wool. Track release date: January 25, 2019. Extracting Place

Mixed Media Installation. 8:44 minute sound HD video loop + 12 earthen blocks cast in place, 2018. From the series "MATERIAL LINES".Spaces are often defined by the unknown, places by the familiar. In extracting place I located, collected and adapted some of Fengersfors' most basic raw materials - clay and sand. Used universally for design and construction, working with these materials always helps to ground me when I arrive in a new location. The video installation in this piece documents the landscapes I passed on my journey to locating and extracting raw soil from the historic clay pit in Fengersfors, Sweden. The collected soil was then used to cast twelve earthen blocks in place for the residency exhibition at Not Quite. The block dimensions (22.5cm x 11cm x 6.5cm) are based on the original bricks used to construct the Fenegersfors paper mill - the space where extracting place was installed.
